South Essex Bluegrass festival has been running since 2014. Since 2015, it has been located at Bluphan Village Hall, a village situated just off the A128, half way between the A127 to the north and the A13 to the south. The site is about 10 miles from the Dartford crossing. More details of the location can be found on our Directions page.

The organisers are Rich and Mags. Rich is a longtimebluegrass fan and stunning banjo player. He has been involved with Bluegrass since the age of 8, performing in public to audiences far and wide. Mags, although a more recent convert to Bluegrass, has also been playing fiddle since a young age.

The site is a traditional village hall, with camping available on the village green behind. The concerts take place inside the hall, with the bar conveniently located in a marquee directly outside. The marquee has plenty of space for evening jamming, and al fresco dining for those who’d prefer not to eat in the hall.

The bar is stocked with a range of bottled lagers and shorts, plus a number of real ales from Crouch Vale brewery and farmhouse cider for £3.50 a pint. The bar stays open until the last staff member drops!

The campsite has a water point for campers, a portable toilet emptying point and a shower. The hall has full toilet facilities with a separate disabled toilet.

Happy campers

The kitchen area is used to  provide hot breakfasts and evening meals (vegetarian options always available), along with sandwiches for lunch. In addition, there is a barbeque running throughout the evening and after the concerts to ensure jammers don’t fade away with hunger.
